Many patients are not aware that the laser or machine being used will be directly related to the quality of their results and the safety of their treatments. Gentlelase consistently rates as one of the best lasers for hair removal when rated for efficacy and comfort! In fact, Gentlelase was one of the original laser hair removal devices to be approved by the FDA as permanent hair removal. Our practice prides itself with customer satisfaction and comfort.
Treatment Information:
A series of treatments are required for permanent hair removal. The laser is only able to treat actively growing hair follicles. At any one time, only a portion of follicles are actively producing hair. Thus multiple sessions are required to treat the hair follicles as they become active. Typically, the number of sessions will be between four and ten, depending upon the area being treated. In certain conditions, like chin or facial hair growth in women with hormonal imbalances like Polycystic Ovarian Disease and menopause, longer term treatments are required as the hormones stimulate new follicles. Treatment discomfort is similar to the level of waxing. With each pulse, you will feel a heat sensation.
Typically the first sessions are the most uncomfortable as the amount of heat you feel is directly related the density of the hair and the hair density decreases with subsequent sessions. There is no aftercare generally required. Normal reactivity following the session involves temporarily redness (usually lasting several hours but can last a few days) and some temporary bumpiness to the skin. Very rarely blisters can occur and hyperpigmentation can result. Very importantly, do not tan your skin for at least two weeks prior to each session. Sun exposure following your session is not a problem. If you use retinoic acid (Retin-A) on your skin and are having facial hair removal, stop this product for one week prior to your session.
