A Secret to Graceful Aging!

Although not an "extreme makeover", Thermage is one of the best secrets to controlling one of the most important aspects of facial aging – degradation of the dermal collagen layer. This dermal layer of the skin is the face’s support structure. At The Center for Aesthetics we make the analogy to a trampoline. When we are young, our trampoline is filled with tightly woven collagen fibers providing great elasticity and support to the top layer of the skin. Unfortunately as we age, our body turns off collagen production and the collagen fibers start to splay apart with resulting sagging in our trampoline! Thermage uses radiofrequency to gently heat the dermis, stimulating collagen contracture as well as new collagen formation. The beauty of this treatment is that it has "no downtime".

We believe that Thermage is a technique dependent treatment and know that we have the most knowledge and experience with this technology to deliver the most reliable results. Thermage is an excellent proactive way to prevent facial sagging and loss of skin tone. Preventive treatments should start around the age of 40. Restorative treatments are best performed on individual under the age of 60 although this varies depending upon the extent of aging in the individual. The providers at The Center for Aesthetics will be honest and open about whether this treatment is suitable for you. Yearly or every other year treatments are usually recommended; however very proactive patients opt for treatments as frequently as every 6 months.

Thermage now offers treatments specifically for the eyelid area with a specially designed tip to adequately treat the delicate skin of the eyelid. This is a great option for patients with early “crepiness” of the eyelids who are not ready for surgical intervention.

Treatment Information:

Thermage treatments will take 1 to 1.5 hours. During that time you will experience some temporary sharp heat sensation, often like a rubber band snapping the skin. Usually this is a very tolerable sensation, but for patients who are concerned about the possible discomfort we can administer oral sedatives to help. Please bring a driver if you opt for this. There is no discomfort following the session. Your skin may be slightly pink following the session, similar to having had a facial performed. There is no aftercare necessary. Often you can immediately feel and appreciate the tightening effect from collagen contracture.

Burns and contour deformities have been reported but are exceedingly rare. During our six years of performing Thermage, we have never had an adverse reaction.
